| Hypnosis Article - Hypnosis and Marathons
So you don't picture yourself doing a marathon? Join the club!
A year and a half ago, I the bright idea that maybe I should be able to climb a set of stairs without loosing my breath. Go figure. The elevator at work quit and I had to walk three floors to the office. In my defence they are very tall floors. However, that was no excuse. It was a sign that chose to pay attention to. So I started to "run". That just cracks me up. It was more like a heart felt walk to the end of the block and I turned around and walked home. That was monday.
Tuesday I headed out the door, determined to make it to the next corner. I made it that far turned around and walked home. Thursday I headed out again determined to get to the second corner, turn around and "run" back. From there I continued to do a little more, a little further, and stay our a little longer. Meanwhile a friend of mine offered to help me. He encouraged me to work up to twenty minutes straight. Eventually I got there and by passed that.
One weekend, at a course that I was teaching one of the girls comments to her workshop partner, "Hey, do you want to run a marathon in Hawaii?" Not only did I over hear her, but I started to think about it. How cool would that be to run a marathon in Hawaii? I could make it my first, and possibly only; I would leave that decision for another day, marathon somewhere so memorable that I would never forget it. That day I decided to do the Honolulu Marathon in a year and half's time.
As summer came it was easier and easier for me to get out and run. I took time for myself to do something just for me. Fall came and I found the support I needed to keep me focused through the cold weather. I did my first race Dec 31, 2009 at -20 degrees celcius. Ok, it was only a 5km run, but I did it. I told myself I could do it and I did it! It was actually 7.3K due to course changes and I was duely impressed that it was actually fairly easy.
I continued to train through the spring, summer and even this fall. I had made a hypnosis cd and listened to it whenever I needed help and reinforcement. A lot of changes took place that year and a half, not only in my body, but in my mindset of what I could do physically. Let me tell you, I was not thinking, "Ya I can run 43 kilometers, let's go."
It was more like, "Left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot. Just keep doing that, I can do that."
At the wee hours of the morning Dec 12, 2010, I ran my marathon. Six and half hours later I finished my very first marathon. I'm here to tell you, "If I can do it. You can do it."
You're the reason I kept pushing myself. I knew I had to do it for you, to let You know what You Have in You.
In 2011, may all your dreams come true!
Let's go see what you can do.
